  59.  I'm building a car alarm system and I'm looking for a transmitter that
  60. could be put on a key chain to act as a panic button. The arm/dearm devices
  61. for current production car alarms would work nicely. It will be interfaced
  62. with a PIC16 microcontroller so I've got a lot of freedom designwise.

  86. This may not be what you are looking for but Radio Shack sells the keychain 
  87. remotes to their alarms separately.  I think they cost around $20.  I'm sure 
  88. the guts themselves are only about $3 if you can find a source.

  134. three or four TS-850's for sale, all for around $1250.00 each.

  229. Well, there you have it!  I was beginning to worry that my $4 HRO cable
  230. might not actually be connecting my $600 radio to my $100 SWR meter so I
  231. thought I'd check it.  Hmmm... center conductor seems fine... Hmmm, that's 
  232. interesting, the center conductor and the shielding are connected!  Good,
  233. no wonder the meter wasn't registering anything, I was dumping 50 Watts into
  234. the damn cable!  Well, gotta hand it to Yaesu for building a radio that can
  235. stand up to that with apparently no ill effects.

  237. This little incident also bears on a question someone had about the Radio 
  238. Shack VHF SWR meters.  I gave them a lashing after returning two of them as 
  239. faulty (using the same cable, of course!)... So I would bet they worked after 
  240. all.  I feel a little bad about that but I'm sure RS will recover.

  306. You must first deside on wether you are using the rig as a mobile, or not...
  307. The TS-50 is a nice small all mode rig that will make your life easier if
  308. used as a mobile, the TS-140 is somewhat larger and personally I can't imagine
  309. it mounted in a midsize or compact car :-)
  310. Both radios are more or less the same as far as performance is concerned, but
  311. have you given the TS-640 (I think that's the correct model number) a thought ?
  312. It is the TS-140 plus one extra band...  
  313. As far as comparing Kenwood with Icom or Yaesu, well personally I LOVE Kenwood,
  314. so I would say Kenwood is best...
